This is a preview of our bulletin for the week of February 11th, 2024

Putting the fun in first projects

For the 4th Grade's 1st project, Mr. Whitney concentrated on teaching them how to create a wooden egg and stand. The students worked with a whittling knife to carve the top of their egg. The class focused on creating not only a convex shape, but a form that resembled their unique mental image of an egg and what it looks like. Their next step in the process was using a rasp, and while creating the bottom section of their egg, they seperated it from what would become the egg's stand. Lastly, the students focused on symmetry while making a smooth surface of both the egg and stand it would rest on.

Grades 3 and 4 performed their play ' Three Stories From Chelm' for faculty and students during 1st period on Friday, and then for parents later that evening. We were all delighted with the energy they lent to the production.

February 10th begins a 15-day festival celebrating the Lunar New Year/Year Of The Dragon in some parts of the world. Grade 4 students had fun making their own colorful dragons, then took them through the school halls to share with us. They spoke about different ways they'll be celebrating this Chinese holiday with family and friends.

One of our 1st grade students proudly shows of the duck she made in Miss Emily’s Handwork class.

Middle school students decided to compose their own music for our Spring Assembly.  Here, you can see how the front office was treated to a practice session with Miss Hindson. The budding violinists are still pondering a name for their original song while taking time to polish the tune.

The 6th grade has been taking a quick tour of the world during their geography block by taking time to draw a map of each continent. The maps have focused on natural features, like rivers and mountains, natural resources, like copper and lithium, and agricultural resources, including many fruits, grains, and animals. Looking at all the continents, students have found there are many similarities, but also special differences which make each unique.

To mark the transition in their studies from Ancient Egypt to Ancient Greece, Class Five drew these lovely pastel renditions of architectural ruins from each location: the Pyramids and Sphinx of Giza and the Athenian Parthenon. They are learning how to use dry pastel chalks with a similar approach to that of watercolor- soft, fluid, and layered.

Make it stand out
