Dear Waldorf Community,

As many of you heard at this year’s Winter Assembly, we have an exciting new event in the works that will give us the chance to come together as a school community, have fun together, and raise money for local charities: it’s the First Annual Teachers vs. Parents Charity Basketball Game!  On Thursday, February 15th from 6-8pm we will gather at the Gavin Park gymnasium in Wilton to watch a posse of WSSS teachers (both early childhood and lower school!) play a high stakes basketball game against a motley crew of WSSS parents, all of whom are willing to set aside their sense of better judgment and personal well being for one night, in the name of a good time for a good cause. Admission to the game will be charged and all of the proceeds will be donated to Saratoga-based charities: Shelters of Saratoga and the Franklin Community Center.  There will be a bake sale and a 50/50 raffle with all proceeds also going to the charities.  If you are a parent and would like to volunteer to be a player or to fill another role for this event, please contact Mr. Stewart (sstewart@wladorfsaratoga.org) or simply go to the SignUp Genius page for this event.  All attendees must RSVP, as seating is limited.  Entry fees will be collected on the night of the game.  Let’s get together for a great cause and have some fun watching our beloved teachers and devoted parents show who is boss of the basketball court!

We were recently gifted this beautiful sewing machine from an alumni family - we're certain our sewing students will put it to good use!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Beautiful detail in snowflakes made by our Middle Graders.

In Grade 4, students are finishing up needle books! These are hand sewn wool felt “books” that they will use to stash sewing needles and pins in for the year! The backdrop is a cross stitched table cloth from Ukraine, and lends wonderful inspiration for their own cross stitching this year. The wool felt is from Fiddlehead Artisan Supply, an independent  craft store where Ms Emily’s older sister works, and teaches sewing classes as well!

Over at our Forest Kindergarten the children took advantage of the snow covered hill, giggling all the way down on their bright, colorful sleds.

And here, they get a helping hand from Miss Courtney so they can fill the bird feeders most visited by their winged friends.

1st Graders have been busy in Handwork Class, knitting kitty cats and ducks. They are also learning how to card - a process by which wool or cotton fibers are separated and prepared for spinning.

We are delighted to let you know Jordan Becker will be running another workshop this year for our community! Last year's workshop was so much fun, I'm sure many will want to participate again.

Here is the Signup Genius link with all of the details!

"Thank goodness for that first snow, it was a reminder - no matter how old you became and how much you'd seen, things could still be new if you were willing to believe they still mattered."
