Class seven has been busily stitching coffee cup cozies for Valentine's Day. This handwork project, their first since grade six, is a review of basic stitches and also a preliminary lesson in patternmaking and fitting a "garment" on a three dimensional form.
Sometimes, the little surprises in life are the best. 6th grade students ran into the front office this week; "Do you want to see our rainbow?" Mr. Hahn had placed a prism on the windowsill and the sunlight caught it, casting rainbows across the floor of their classroom. It was fun to watch them try to 'hold' the colors in their hands for a few minutes.
EXCITING NEWS !!
“The WSSS Ninja & Parkour Club is back! After the winter vacation, students in grades 3-7 will have the chance to go to the Saratoga Ninja Lab to learn the ins and outs of traversing a giant obstacle course during this after school club. Instructors at the gym will supervise and teach the students techniques for conquering the obstacles. Bus transportation is provided to and from the gym. Click here and fill out the registration form. Registration deadline on Friday, February 23!”
Miss Crandall was happy to share the following: "The 7th grade class has finished up their Anatomy and Physiology block. Major systems of the body were studied as well as the importance of the mind/body connection. We also explored relationships between systems in nature and systems in the human body; the trees, the ocean of air and our own breathing; the water cycle with the warming sun and our hearts that warm the blood that circulates through our bodies; the corals in the ocean and the villi in the intestines, to name a few."
We received so many Valentine's Day gifts here in the office. Nursie and I are grateful for the love everyone showers on us throughout the year. We both hope you had a wonderful day!
The students in the whirligig club are working away on their goose forms. Next they will be making the wings and assembling the mechanical components so they spin. We will be hoping for a windy day come early March, otherwise Mr. Whitney told the kids he would would bring in a big fan to test them out!
