Class Five Is Ready For Easter!
They learned about the Ukrainian style of decorating beautiful Psanky eggs using melted beeswax and veiled layers of dye, then painted their own eggs using wax relief and watercolor. This busy group had such fun designing and coloring their eggs that only one student chose to paint our second subject- an Easter lily; happily, Ivy's beautiful painting of a white lily flower stands alone in its simplicity and grace.
We were treated to a performance by Evie Ladin, who taught us a little bit about the history of the banjo and the art of body music. It was wonderful to see students from every grade taking part in the show, thanks to Cafe Lena and the program On The Road, which made this possible.
~~ 6th Grade Play ~~
The Stones Cry Out
The Sixth Grade performed The Stones Cry Out - A Rock Musical written by Merwin Lewis and directed by Abigail Reid with accompanist Elizabeth Conant. The play is an imagination of what rocks would say if they could talk. It is full of geological facts, and at the same time makes connections to our human condition. The music is complicated and beautiful, poignant and joyful. Costumes were done by Mary Crain. Scott Stewart helped with tumbling and Michael Whitney helped with the set. It was a great collaborative effort by all.
5th grade students were busy practicing Circus Arts during Movement with Mr. Stewart this week.
