Last week, the 3rd Grade went on a Handwork Field Trip to The Brookside Museum in Ballston Spa. There, students experienced a sheep to shawl presentation. The students spent the morning learning about the Brookside Museum as a historic building, witnessed a sheep shearing and were able to go through the process of carding and spinning wool into yarn. Thank you Ms. Emily for organizing and to the Brookside Museum for having us!
5th grade production of Theseus and the Minotaur
The fifth grade has been studying ancient cultures this year. The story of Theseus and the Minotaur in their class play comes from Greek Mythology and history. Two kings mistrust the will of the gods. Two babies are born in unusual circumstances. One child becomes the monstrous Minotaur trapped inside an underground labyrinth lair. The other child grows into a hero and a king who unties Greece and renounces his crown - allowing Greece to become a democracy!
The fifth grade worked hard on their individual lines as well as an intricate Greek chorus and a labyrinth lair shadow puppet show. Their incredible determination and teamwork also created a flowing tide of scene changes as the action moved from the Oracle of Delphi to a volcano in Corinth, from Athens and surrounding towns to the island of Crete and back again.
And here, 2nd grade students work on Mexican Folk Mirror Art - which dates back to the 1500's. They all had fun admiring each others colorful work as the project progressed during World Language class.
Our first Open Mic Night event at Caffe Lena was such a humbling, joyful experience! Our extremely talented students, families, faculty and community performed so beautifully. We thank everyone who was able to make the evening so special. If you were able to lend a hand volunteering your time at one of our tables, it was so very much appreciated!
On Teacher Appreciation Day these adorable spring-themed baskets were hand-delivered for all to enjoy. Our teachers are truly devoted - and we experience their love of teaching every day here at Waldorf!
Saint Francis had a special gift, he could talk to man, birds, animals and beast. The story depicted that faith and love can bring forth miracles. Grade 2 offered the story thru their annual play - Saint Francis and the Wolf of Gubbio.
In preparation for their class play Saint Francis and the Wolf of Gubbio, Grade 2 worked very hard: In crafts class with Mrs Doriwala and Ms. Kidd they worked on the felt-sewn birds. They also concentrated on perfecting their singing & in handwork classes with Ms. Emily and Ms. Gina students helped create this amazing wool backdrop that will grace our Eurythmy Room through the end of the school year!
First, within this community-inspired collaboration, Grade 2 made parts of the backdrop, crafting with needle felting & wool roving (brought back from a Grade 5 field trip to Battenkill Fibers with Ms Emily) the four elements,
and the sun, moon, and stars. Students and teachers then assembled the background and installed it together.
During Tuesday’s evening performance for parents, the late afternoon sun streamed in through the windows, highlighting the wool sun.
